Safeguarding & Well Being
There is a strong team who are responsible for safeguarding at the school. Mrs Cannon, Assistant Headteacher is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Ms Green, Deputy Headteacher, is the Deputy DSL. In addition, there are 6 other trained DSLs and students are made aware of the support available to them on a regular basis via assemblies and tutor time. All staff at the school receive regular training and are adept at supporting children who disclose any concerns or need someone to talk to. Students at Fernwood are encouraged to be open about any additional support they may need and know that they can choose who to speak with. We have a Mental Health Lead who co-ordinates provision in this area and ensures that mental health remains high on the agenda with staff and students alike. We also have a Well-Being Mentor who can support students in school as well as a school nurse and a counsellor. We work closely with outside agencies to provide support for young people and visiting counsellors come into school from B U Notts and the Mental Health Support Team.
We regularly signpost students to other agencies as required; please see links below.
