Staff Well-being

At Fernwood, we believe in supporting each other and offering a caring and supportive, professional environment for you to challenge yourself and thrive as a teacher.

Staff Sport: This is organised as a weekly after school activity. It generally takes place on a Friday night for an hour or so of fun. The sport changes on a regular basis and involves friendly competition. All abilities welcome.

Boot Camp: A weekly organised circuits based boot camp has started this year in the sports hall for those after more strenuous sporting activity!

Yoga: This is on Thursday and Friday nights in the drama studio (or on the field if the sun is shining!). An external provider comes in to deliver a weekly session. The sessions are a great way to unwind. Small fee payable.

Book Club: Fernwood Staff Book Club takes place after school, usually once a term.

Staff Laptop: The school provides all teaching staff with their own laptop.

Cycle to Work: All staff have access to the government-based cycle to work scheme where you can save between 25-39% on the price of a new bike, but we also provide a staff shower room for those who need to get dressed at work.

Staff Room: The staff room is a great place to network with other members of staff and we have modern, comfortable facilities along with a staff kitchen, staff computer corridor along with lockers if desired. At break time, free tea & coffee is organised and ready to be collected at the start of break by our catering team.

Employee Assistance Programme

Working in schools can at times be a really challenging job, and on top of a highly supportive management structure at Fernwood, all colleagues are also enroled in an employee assistance programme, provided by Education Support, who provide confidential counselling and support on any topic (work or personal) for both the employee and their partner.  They operate 24 hours a day, so they can be contacted anytime, day or night. https://www.educationsupport.org.uk/
